Being obedient to God requires great courage. To be obedient, one must submit to Him. However, this does not mean blindly following Him. It means understanding and listening to the call He makes to each and every person. Understanding leads to passion.
When I was entering my freshman year in high school, I was considering quitting band. I was afraid of being teased by the upper class men and my peers. However, after attending the first football game and playing in the stands, I was elated and excited. I was accepted in a group of people who had similar interests. Those irrational fears were long gone.
Obedience allows us to celebrate Advent by giving us the discipline and willpower to await the celebration of the birth of our Savior. This is like how I listened to the calling that God gave me, and I reaped the blessings that came with it.
